Learning to Spell
Ben had a big problem: he couldn’t spell very well. Every time the teacher gave a spelling quiz, Ben felt nervous. No matter how hard he tried, the words always jumbled in his head.
One day, his teacher, Mrs. Green, announced the school spelling bee. Ben wanted to participate, but he wasn’t sure he could do it. “You don’t have to win,” Mrs. Green said. “Just give it your best shot.”
Ben’s mom helped him practice every evening. They turned spelling into a game, using flashcards and silly songs. Slowly, Ben started remembering the tricky words.
On the day of the spelling bee, Ben’s heart raced as he stepped onto the stage. The first few words were easy, but then came a tough one: “butterfly.” Ben took a deep breath and spelled it correctly.
With each word, Ben grew more confident. Even though he didn’t win, he made it to the final round, and everyone clapped for him.
From that day on, Ben wasn’t afraid of spelling anymore. He realized that with a little practice and a lot of determination, he could overcome anything.
